She's got spunk; I love spunk. She's not just beautiful, she's so athrob with life that the movie almost makes you feel her physical presence. Moreover, she's the only person in the film whom Wong seems to care about, and her identity is so strong that it seems to hold the story together most of the time; it really should have been only about her. The relationship between Bai Ling and Chow Mo is based not on love, but on the pretense that love doesn't matter. He pretends to be beyond love.

— Stephen Hunter, Washington Post

Women enter and exit a science fiction author's life over the course of a few years after the author loses the woman he considers his one true love.

He was trapped and he didn't even know it. His release from entrapment needed to be as violent as it was. He is shocked by how much fun he had. Romance is great and all, but what's even better, what's even more freeing, is having some fun. Having fun means you don't care what people think of you. Having fun means you are strong enough in yourself to not live according to someone else's rules. Having fun means giving the finger to anyone who tells you to "take it down a notch.

— Sheila O'Malley, RogerEbert.com

She’s also a talented vocalist as her wonderful performance of her own spirited song – “F**k ’em all but us” – confirms. Patty’s goofy openness works a strange magic on Simon and his abrasiveness (and drug sharing) enlivens and improves both Patty and her family. In common with the best comedies about awful people, the script holds on to its decidedly un-PC lack of niceties for as long as possible.

— Tara Brady, Irish Times

An on-the-lam punk rocker and a young woman obsessed with a local band go on an unexpected and epic journey together through the decaying suburbs of the American Midwest.

Paris, Texas is a beautiful-looking, beautiful-sounding film, although I have to confess to being unsure about the ending (reportedly one of a number considered by Wenders and his co-screenwriters Sam Shepard and LM Kit Carson).

— Peter Bradshaw, Guardian

Just how Marion has come to be running a gin mill in Nepal is never explained, but ''Raiders of the Lost Ark'' is great fun as much for the things it explains as for the explanations it withholds.
